02 Who we are

Education is where we start. Community is how we move forward.

The Grateful Veteran was founded in 2018 with a simple belief: veterans and first responders should be able to understand the resources available to them and know where to turn when they need help. We bring together education, practical assistance, trusted partnerships, and community relationships to help people make informed decisions and connect with resources that can make a difference.

Our work takes different forms, but it comes back to three things: educate, connect, and support.

Educate

We explain how the process actually works, in plain language, before anyone signs anything. That includes Florida's medical-cannabis program, and it includes the part most people get wrong. Florida law, federal law, VA policy and federal firearms law are four separate questions with four separate answers. We keep them separate.

  • Medical-Cannabis Education
  • Benefits and process guidance

Connect

Information matters more when there is somewhere to go next. Through community events, veteran organizations, first-responder relationships, healthcare professionals, nonprofit partners, and local businesses, we help connect people with organizations and resources that may be able to assist them.

  • COMMUNITY OUTREACH • RESOURCE CONNECTIONS • TRUSTED PARTNERSHIPS

Support

Sometimes information and a referral aren’t enough. When our programs and resources allow, The Grateful Veteran provides direct assistance, navigation, follow-through, and advocacy to help remove barriers between people and the support available to them.

  • ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS • NAVIGATION • ADVOCACY

That is what Promoting Change Through Education means here.

03 How it works

What happens when you connect with us

Start with a conversation. Leave with a clearer next step.

Add a tour-stop photo in the theme editor
  1. Connect with us

Visit us at a community or tour stop, complete our online form, or reach out through one of our partners. There is no cost to talk with our team, and you do not need to know exactly what you are looking for before you contact us.

  2. Tell us what you need

We listen first. Whether you are looking for information, assistance, medical-cannabis education, veteran or first-responder resources, or simply trying to understand your options, we help sort through the information and identify what may be useful to you

  3. Leave with a next step

If one of our programs can help, we explain what comes next and help you through the process. If another organization or resource is a better fit, we will do our best to point you in the right direction. The goal is simple: help you leave with better information, a useful connection, and a clearer idea of what to do next.

I cannot express enough gratitude to The Grateful Veteran for their incredible support. They went above and beyond to help me out with my medical processing fees, which took a massive weight off my shoulders. It is rare to find an organization this committed to actually taking action and helping vets improve their quality of life

04 Our standards

What you can expect from us

Straight answers. Practical help. No runaround.

The Grateful Veteran believes trust is earned by being clear about what we can do, what we cannot do, and what happens next.

We will

  • Explain the process in plain language. Whether it involves Florida's medical-cannabis program, one of our assistance programs, or another resource, we want you to understand what you are getting into before you move forward.
  • Be upfront about costs and eligibility. If there is a fee, requirement, deadline, or limitation, we will tell you.
  • Help where our programs allow. When funding or assistance is available, we help qualified veterans and first responders through the process and follow through on the next steps.
  • Connect you with trusted resources. If we are not the right organization for what you need, we will do our best to connect you with someone who may be.
  • Tell you when we do not know. We would rather find the right answer or refer you to the right professional than pretend to have one.

We won't

  • Pressure you into a medical decision. Medical decisions belong between you and a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Guarantee an approval, certification, benefit, or outcome. We can educate, assist, and help navigate the process. We cannot control the final decision.
  • Promise assistance that is not available. Our programs depend on eligibility, available funding, partnerships, and the requirements of each campaign.
  • Give medical or legal advice. We provide education and navigation and connect people with qualified professionals when those questions arise.
  • Send you somewhere simply because someone paid us to. Our responsibility is to the veterans, first responders, families, and communities we serve.

If we can help, we will tell you how. If we cannot, we will tell you that too, and whenever possible, help you find the next place to turn.

05 Support the mission

Your support turns education into action.

The Grateful Veteran is built around showing up in our communities, at veteran and first-responder organizations, at events, and for the individuals who reach out to us for help. Your support helps fund education, outreach, resource navigation, community programs, direct assistance, and the partnerships that allow us to connect veterans, first responders, and their families with meaningful resources. Whether you give once, become a monthly supporter, or help sponsor direct assistance, every contribution helps us reach more people and remove barriers to support. SPONSOR A VETERAN OR FIRST RESPONDER Program availability and direct assistance depend on eligibility, available funding, and the requirements of each program. Medical decisions are made only by qualified healthcare professionals.

State registration fees are covered for approved applicants in active campaigns. The physician makes every medical determination.
