Editorial Standards

The Education & Resources center exists to give veterans, first responders and families useful information they can trust. These are the standards every page in it is held to.

We write for people, not for search engines

We write for veterans, first responders and families who need useful information, not jargon. If a page does not help someone take a clearer next step, it does not belong here.

We show our sources

For medical, legal, VA and legislative topics, we prioritize primary sources: the Florida Department of Health, the Florida Legislature, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, federal agencies and official partner publications. Every high-risk article carries a Sources & verification section with the exact page we relied on and the date we checked it. Dispensary or sponsor marketing is never treated as evidence of medical benefit.

We know our limits

The Grateful Veteran provides education and navigation. We do not diagnose, prescribe, recommend doses or products, provide legal advice, prepare or file VA claims, or guarantee any outcome. The physician makes every medical determination. Accredited representatives handle claims. Attorneys interpret the law. When a question needs one of them, we say so.

Sponsors do not buy conclusions

Partners and sponsors make our work possible, and we disclose those relationships where they are relevant to a page. They do not shape what we tell you, which physician evaluates you, or what we conclude about any product or program.

We keep pages current

Every evergreen article shows when it was published, when it was last reviewed and when the next review is due. When a law, fee, policy or program changes, we update the article and its review date. We do not silently rewrite a legislative outcome or a medical or legal rule.

We correct mistakes

If we get something substantive wrong, we fix it promptly and, for meaningful corrections, add a short note saying what changed. If you see an error, tell us.

We protect people

We publish no individual's story without documented consent and agreement on how it will be used. We do not collect medical records, diagnoses, disability ratings or DD-214s through this website. Article comments are turned off so no one is tempted to share private medical details in public.

Who reviews what

Clinical and medical-cannabis content is reviewed for accuracy and safety. Legislative content is reviewed by our leadership against the official bill record. Field and first-responder content is reviewed by people who have done the job. Named reviewer attributions appear on an article only once leadership has confirmed them.
